Hey there!
I know back in the day, Justin Bieber said Never Say Never… however… I did make one exception when it comes to planning my content.
Here it is:
Live posting all my content instead of scheduling in advance.
I was majorly guilty of this up until very recently. And let me tell you, my content was not hitting the mark one bit.
I was constantly pulling my hair out stressing about what to write last minute. I either ended up posting something half-hearted, probably with a few spelling mistakes, that wasn’t in line with what my audience needed, and was written as if it came from Chat GPT itself. Boring!
Or I simply didn’t post because of the stress of it all!
Before, I would give my marketing an afterthought and leave it until the end of the day after client work. I now know this is not the vibe, and is as important, if not more so than current client work.
Because you never know when you could lose that client, and outreach and putting yourself out there is just as vital!
Here are some things you can do instead of leaving your content as an afterthought at the end of the day:
Brain dump
Take some time to first get all your content ideas out in the open. What have your clients and customers been asking you recently? What are they struggling with? If your clients could wave a magic wand and get what they need right now, what would that be? Get them there through your helpful content!
I use a spreadsheet to ferociously type them all out, and then go through them with a fine-tooth comb to group them into different subjects/text-posts/video content. I also make a special section in my notes app for when I think of ideas on the go (you never know when inspiration will strike!) and regularly add these ideas to my spreadsheet.
Make a schedule
It’s all well and good to have these wonderful ideas, but when will they actually get written? Carve out time every week to write your content. This could be around when you’re catching up on emails, doing your taxes, or when you have a few free hours to go to a cafe (incentivise and gamify, people!). And most importantly, schedule it into your calendar!
When you’ve carved out your time to write, then make a content schedule. Trust me, you don’t need to post to socials every day. Nor do you need to send a newsletter or write a blog post every week. 3 socials’ posts a week and fortnightly/monthly blogs and emails will suffice!
Frog first
Remember when you were in school doing your homework, and your parents would say do the most difficult piece of homework first to get it out of the way? I’d recommend doing the same for your content!
Kiss the frog and write that blog, bish. ;) When you write your chonky piece of content first, it’s a lot easier to stem your email newsletters and socials’ posts from this bigger piece of content. And you don’t have to reinvent the wheel with it; take lines and paragraphs from your blog and quickly repurpose into socials’ posts.
Are you guilty of leaving all of your content to the very last minute? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.
I hope these tips help, but as always, reply back with any questions you have.
